Working at Byond

A small team of senior practitioners, building software in Liverpool.

We're not always hiring — and we don't pretend to be. This page sets honest expectations about how we run the team, what we look for when we are hiring, and how to keep yourself in our heads when we're not.

How we work

The internal version of our methodology.

  • 01

Senior people on real problems. We don't grade-up junior work to senior rates.

  • 02

AI is a tool we use heavily. It speeds the team up; it doesn't measure us.

  • 03

Hybrid by default — Liverpool office for those who want it, async-friendly for those who don't.

  • 04

No timesheets. We measure outcomes, not hours.

  • 05

We turn down projects we don't believe in, and we tell you why.

What we look for

Fit, not skills lists.

Specific frameworks and languages are easy to learn. The traits below are harder.

Practitioners over generalists

People who've shipped real software and have opinions about how to do it. Senior experience matters more here than seniority of title.

Comfortable with AI as a tool

Not anti-AI, not religious about it. People who use it well — and who can tell when not to.

Direct, kind, and accountable

We give honest feedback in person and in writing. We expect the same back.

What you can expect from us

Reverse side of the same coin.

  • Senior peers, not senior in title only
  • Real autonomy on the work that's yours to lead
  • Clear ownership — no ambiguous "swarm" projects
  • A transparent commercial model — no salary-by-osmosis
  • No dead-weight processes; we use the meeting that's needed and skip the rest

Live roles

We're not actively hiring right now.

If you'd be a fit when we are, drop us a note below. We keep an eye on inbound for when the right brief lands — and the team that joins us in the next round of hiring almost always comes from this inbox.

Send us your work

Speculative applications, always open.

Five fields, no friction. Salary's an interview-stage conversation — we don't want it to be the first thing we ask.

We read every one. Response time is usually within a working week.

Not sure if you're a fit?

Send us your work anyway — we read every one.

What happens next...

Someone on the team usually replies within a working day.

  1. 01

    We read every message

Usually within a working day. The first reply comes from a person on the team, not an autoresponder.

  2. 02

If there's a fit, we set up a 30-minute call

We listen, ask questions, and try to work out whether we're the right people for what you're building.

  3. 03

If we can help, we send a written proposal within a week of the call

An honest indicative range, a shape for the engagement, and the people we'd put on it.
