Services / Fractional Teams
The team you need is smaller than you think.
Fractional senior people who run the work, build the AI agents that handle the rest, and stay only as long as the outcome needs them. Contracted outside IR35, paid for what we deliver.
What we mean by Fractional Teams
Senior practitioners, part-time. Outcomes, not headcount.
- Fractional Product Lead — part-time senior product person who owns the outcome end-to-end. The PM, BA, and Head of Product trio, compressed into one experienced person plus the agents that do the rest.
- Fractional Engineering Lead — part-time technical leadership for teams that need senior judgement but not a full-time hire. Architecture, code review, and the AI tooling that lets a smaller team punch above its weight.
- Fractional Delivery Lead — part-time delivery and change leadership for stalled or scaling work. Process, prioritisation, and the agents that handle the routine bits.
- Outcome-scoped engagements — a defined deliverable, a fixed window, and a fractional senior who's accountable for getting it done.
What you get
Outcomes, not deliverables.
Senior judgement at a fraction of the cost — a senior practitioner two days a week, not a full-time hire
Outcomes, not headcount — we sell you the thing you're trying to ship, not days on a timesheet
Contracted outside IR35 — genuine contracts, scoped to deliverables, with the working practices to match
How we approach it
5 stages, in this order.
- 01
Define the outcome, not the team
The first conversation is about what needs to happen, not how many people it takes. Outcomes are easier to scope than headcounts — and they price honestly.
- 02
Match a senior practitioner, not a team
One or two senior people who fit the work. The person you meet on the call is the person doing the work.
- 03
Build the agents that do the rest
Status reports, meeting summaries, ticket triage, requirements drafting, test scaffolding, first-cut code — the parts that used to need a junior team are now agent work. We build them in, run them, and hand them over.
- 04
Work to outcomes, not timesheets
Fractional days agreed up front. Outcomes agreed up front. We don't pad timesheets; we ship the thing.
- 05
Step out cleanly
When the outcome is delivered, the engagement ends. No retainer creep. The agents stay; we don't.
Why the team is smaller now
AI accelerates the team. Senior experience still decides what to build.
The reason a fractional model works is that AI agents now do most of the work that used to need junior team members. Status reporting, meeting notes, backlog grooming, document drafting, first-cut code, test coverage — all agent work. What's left is the work that needs judgement: deciding what to build, when to ship, how to handle the awkward case. That work doesn't get smaller. But the team around it does.
- Senior judgement is what AI can't do. That's what you're paying for.
- The repetitive work goes to agents we build, run, and hand over.
- Smaller team, same outcomes, less cost.

Questions we hear a lot
FAQs.
- Why fractional and not a full team?
- Because AI agents do most of what a full team used to do. The work that's left — the judgement work — doesn't need eight people. It needs one or two senior practitioners and a set of well-built agents.
- How many days a week do you work?
- Most fractional engagements are 1–3 days a week. We agree the shape based on the outcome and the timeline, not based on a fixed retainer.
- What about IR35?
- All Fractional Team engagements are scoped outside IR35. Defined deliverables, defined windows, working practices that match. We use standard contract templates and we're happy to walk you through them on the call.
- How does this compare to hiring a contractor?
- A contractor sells you days. A Fractional Team sells you the outcome — and brings the AI tooling that makes a smaller commitment possible. Day rates are similar; total cost usually isn't.
- Can you scale up if the work grows?
- Yes — but the first instinct is always to add an agent before adding a person. If the outcome genuinely needs more senior time, we add another fractional practitioner. We don't grow team size for its own sake.
- What about the agents you build — who owns them?
- You do. Same as the rest of the work — code, documentation, decisions, and the agents themselves all belong to you. We hand them over before we step out.
